Devon runs into Cayden by the incinerator chute and tells him
a little about Julia Taylor and how everyone used to hang out
at her apartment. When Cayden tells her that he is in possession
of Julia's diary, she demands that he turn it over because she
knows that Julia wouldn't want people to see some of the things
written in it. When Cayden declines to give Devon the diary,
she gets angry and leaves his apartment. |

|
When Cayden knocks on her door to complain about her loud music,
Devon is rude to him, as usual and slams her door in his face.
Later, as she is leaving her apartment, she is angered when Cayden
doesn't hold the elevator door open and gives him a piece of
her mind.
That evening, when she returns
home and Cayden doesn't hold the elevator door open for her again,
she goes off on him but is surprised when Cayden turns around
and starts going off on her. She realizes that her anger is not
directed at Cayden but at the fact that Julia's killer hasn't
been found.
When they head upstairs and
find that Cayden's apartment has been broken into, Devon stays
with him. When Cayden admits that he kept Julia Taylor's diary
from the police, the two decide to work together and read the
diary to find Julia's killer themselves. |

When Cayden approaches Devon to read Julia's diary, Devon turns
him down and says that she's not ready to do that yet. Later,
when Cayden finds Mr Rocky Balboa dead in the bathtub, Devon
asks him not to turn the diary over to the police and Cayden
agrees. Devon decides that she doesn't have the luxury of time
to wait to read Julia's diary. |

|
Devon tries to get Cayden to loosen
up a bit and stop acting so stiff. She convinces him to that
he needs to get over what happened between him and Szymon Skubisz
and move on. Later she convinces him to go out for Halloween
and puts her spin on his costume.
After a night out on the town,
Devon gets excited about an idea that she has and gathers everyone
in Cayden's apartment, where she reveals that they are going
to find Julia's killer by having a seance and asking Julia herself. |

try to contact Julia Taylor. When kathryn breaks the circle,
Devon gets angry, but when the lights go off, she and Cayden

Devon runs into Cayden in the hall and asks if they can read
through Julia's diary, but Cayden avoids her and tells her that
they can do it when he gets back. We later discover from Szymon

|
At the hospital, Devon if fluffing Jesse's pillow when Cayden
and Kathryn walk in. Devon rips into Jesse, calling him stupid
and selfish for what he did. She storms out of the room.
When Kathryn follows Devon
into the hall to reprimand her for the way she spoke to Jesse,
Devon blows up at Kathryn and tells her to mind her business.
When Kathryn doesn't back down, Devon asks her what she's up
to and why she's suddenly trying to get so close to Jesse. Lucky
for the two of them, Gage interrupts them before the argument
becomes physical.
Later, Szymon Skubisz visits
Jesse and shares his suspicion that Jesse attempted suicide because
he felt guilty for killing Julia. Devon tries to defend her friend,
but it is Cayden that gets Szymon to leave.
Afterwards, Devon and Cayden
head home and discuss the topic of Thanksgiving. They decide
to have a small gathering and invite Jesse. Devon opts to buy
the turkey. |

1x10: "Everybody Makes Mistakes" |
|
On Thanksgiving, everyone has gathered at Cayden's apartment
for dinner. Devon and Mason tease Cayden about Elijah sleeping
in his bed and Devon suggests that Cayden take initiative and
see if a relationship with Elijah would be possible.
Later, while leaving the bathroom,
Devon has a conversation with Kathryn and apologizes for what
she said in the hospital. The two decide that the best course
of action is to work together to help Jesse through his difficult
time.
Mason tells everyone that one
of their neighbors is dead after having committed suicide and
everyone shows concern for how Jesse reacts to this news, but
he assured them that he is fine and that he knows he would have
ended up like their neighbor if he didn't have such great friends.
When everyone sits down to
dinner, they tell one another what they are most thankful for
and Devon admits that she is thankful that there are people out
there who help others, not because they have to, but because
they want to. |

1x11: "The Perfect Sky" |
|
It is two weeks after Thanksgiving, and as the day begins everyone
is helping Mason move into his new apartment, the apartment in
which a neighbor of Cayden's committed suicide. When everyone
begins to get tired of cleaning the new apartment, they decide
to take a break. Cayden, Devon, Gage, Jesse, and Kathryn head
to the corner store to pick up some snacks. While they are there,
Szymon enters the store and speaks to Cayden privately, or so
they think
When Szymon tells Cayden that
they are officially labeling Julia's murder as a cold case, Devon
reacts strongly. When everyone finds out what Szymon told Cayden,
Cayden realizes that it would be best for Szymon to leave, and
he does so.
As everyone decides to pay
for their snacks and leave, a man with a gun enters the corner
store and tells the cashier to hand over the money. When the
cashier pulls out a shotgun, things go from bad to worse. The
cashier is shot and killed and another customer who tries to
flee is shot as well.
Outside, Szymon hears the gunshots
and orders the store robber to come out, but the man doesn't
comply. He holds Cayden, Devon, Gage, Jesse and Kathryn hostage,
threatening to kill them.
Devon tries to stand up to
the gunman but realizes that her life is more important than
arguing with a killer. In a struggle to get free, Gage is shot.
When Cayden sees that, he tries to flee but is held by the gunman.
In an effort to get out of the store, the gunman holds a gun
to Cayden's head and threatens to shoot him. Szymon sees that
and loses it. When Szymon doesn't back off, the gunman shoots
Cayden on the arm.
Huddled together, Devon tries
to get Kathryn to calm down and with help from Jesse, she is
able to do so.
When Cayden realizes that he
has to get out of the store before he is killed. He tries to
flee but if caught by the gunman and is thrown into the center
of a standoff with the gunman and the police.
With quick thinking, Cayden
is able to briefly incapacitate the gunman, allowing Szymon a
clear shot, which he takes. |

In this episode we learn that Julia Taylor confided in Devon
James about her affair with Gage Matthews. Although Devon is
shocked, she pledges her loyalty to Julia and swears that she
will not say anything about the affair. |

When Cayden knocks on her door, Devon seems irritated because
she was right in the middle of having sex. After Cayden spies
her visitor, he sheepishly backs off, allowing her to get back
to what she was doing. |

It's Christmas Eve, and Devon shows up at Cayden's apartment.
Cayden tries to rush her out but feels sympathetic when she starts
to talk about missing Julia. He tells her that she needs to go
out and have fun, for her and for Julia, and she agrees. |

1x15: "When the Madness Stops, Part II" |
|
When Devon catches Jesse kissing Kathryn, she explodes and everyone
gets involved in an argument. When Gage tells everyone that Julia
wouldn't have wanted them to argue because she was all about
forgiveness, Cayden lets it slip that Gage slept with Julia and
Jesse forgave her for that.
A stunned Jesse didn't know
that Gage was the one Julia cheated on his with and tries to
attack him. As they try to figure out how Cayden knew about the
affair, Devon tells them that he has Julia's diary and she demands
that Cayden give it to her because he can't be trusted.
Angry, Cayden turns on Devon
and tells her that she's the one who can't be trusted because
she helped Julia secretly get an abortion when she didn't know
if Gage or Jesse was her baby's father.
This knews causes everyone
to go into shock and leave Cayden's apartment, but not before
Devon punches him on the nose. |

1x16: "Brand New Day" |
|
When the power goes out, leaving Cayden stuck in an elevator
with Devon, the two have it out over what happened on Christmas.
Cayden tells her that he can't be held responsible for ruining
Julia's memory because her memory was a lie that Devon helped
protect. After some heated words, Devon forgives him and tells
him that it's not his fault, he just got caught in the middle
of everything. When the power returns, they decide not to go
out and spend the holiday together.
While they are heading up the
stairs, they run into Gage, who tries to avoid them, but Devon
stops him and tells him that they are not mad at him. After some
convincing, Gage agrees to spend New Year's Eve with them.
After convincing Jesse and
Kathryn to join them, Cayden retreats to his bedroom to have
some alone time, but Devon interrupts him and talks to him about
Julia. She tells him that she feels responsible for Julia's death
because she gave her bad advice. Julia received a letter around
the same time that Jesse received the letter that clued him into
her affair. Julia's letter demanded that she break up with Jesse
and Devon told her to ignore the letter.
As the countdown to midnight
begins, everyone gathers in Cayden's living room. When the clock
strikes twelve, Devon unexpectedly grabs Gage and gives him a
kiss, warning him that it's nothing more than just a New Year's
kiss. |

1x17: "Tempted" |
|
Cayden and Devon discuss his plans for lunch with Szymon, and
Devon teases him about being a home-wrecker. Cayden confesses
his hesitance to get involved with a married man, but Devon convinces
him to at least meet with Szymon.
While at work, Devon gets a
strange phonecall from Gage Matthews. When she wonder why Gage
would be calling her, she is surprised when Gage asks her out
to eat. When she asks him about his strange behavior, Gage quickly
makes an excuse and hangs up the phone, leaving Devon to wonder
if he was asking her out on a date.
Later, when Devon spots Gage
at the store where she works, she gets angry and pulls him into
a dressing room where she confronts him about his behavior. Gage
responds by kissing her. When Devon slaps him and asks him what
he's doing, he makes an excuse about her kissing him at New Year's
Eve. The two decide that they are not interested in one another,
and vow to avoid one another, but temptation takes control of
them and they end up having sex in the fitting room. |

1x18: "Dear Diary" |
|
It is the night of Jesse's big art show and Cayden is disappointed
because he believes that Szymon is not going to show up. Devon
talks to him and tells him that despite the fact that she doesn't
like Szymon, she believes that he is a man of his word and if
he said he'd show up, then he will.
As she is looking at the paintings,
Devon is approached by Gage and the two share a conversation
about art in which Devon makes an observation that Gage's appreciation
of art mirrors his appreciation of women. He is more interested
in art (and women) that are purely visual and don't have much
substance.
When the host of the evening
announces that it is time to reveal Jesse's final painting, things
go badly when Jesse unveils a portrait of Julia that has been
vandalized. Jesse tears out of the show, screaming and is followed
by Kathryn and Devon, who promise not to leave his side until
he calms down. |

1x19: "The Boy Can't Help It" |
When Devon returns home from grocery shopping, she is accompanied
by Elijah, who helps her carry her groceries. Elijah tells her
about his sexual escapades and she teases him about it. When
they get off of the elevator, Devon spots Gage and Mason talking
to a girl. She gets jealous and has a verbal spar with the girl,
which Gage interrupts. Gage takes Devon to her apartment and
asks her what is going on, but Devon chooses not to tell him.
When Devon becomes physically ill, the conversation is ended. |

1x20: "Truly, Madly, Deeply" |
|
It's Valentine's Day and Devon drops by Cayden's to vent her
frustrations with Gage. She tells Cayden that she's confused
because she doesn't want to have feelings for Gage, but she does.
Cayden tells her that she needs to do something about it, but
Devon chooses to avoid the situation instead.
Later, when Devon catches Gage
talking to Sarah Mulberry, she freaks out and storms off. Once
she's had time to cool off, Devon goes to Gage's apartment and
attacks him because she realized that she has fallen for him.
The two realize that the feelings they have are mutual and admit
their fear of what will happen before they lay down to make love. |

Episode
1x21: "Goodbye, Part I" |
|
Cayden is frantic when he loses the ring tht Szymon gave him
while throwing out the trash. He begs Devon and Elijah for their
help in searching for it and the three go down to the incinerator
to wade through trash bags. As the search becomes futile, Cayden
discovers a trash bag filled with pictures of Julia Taylor. They
find Julia's diary that was stolen from Cayden's apartment. The
three soon realize that they just dug through the trash of Julia's
killer. They take the trash bag with them as they scurry to leave,
Cayden finds the ring at the last moment.
Back in Cayden's apartment,
he gathers everyone and tells them about the findings. Cayden
calls Szymona d asks him to get there right away. As Jesse steps
forward the grab the bag, Kathryn blocks him and grabs it. Devon
is furious that Kathryn continues to further contaminate the
evidence. Cayden tries to bring everyone back to their senses
and they agree to go through the bad while wearing latex gloves.
While they are searching through
the bag, Cayden gets overwhelmed and steps into his bedroom.
Devon follows him and asks if he is okay. Cayden admits that
he's scared at the fact that there is a killer in the building
who has broken into his apartment on several ocassions. Devon
admits to Cayden that she is scared too. She also admits that
she is pregnant.
As Jesse Martinez searched
through the bag of evidence, he is shocked to find that in every
picture of Julia Taylor, someone cut out her eyes. When Gage
tries to help, Jesse goes off on him, blaming him for preventing
him from spending precious time with Julia before she died. Kathryn
does her best to stop the two men from fighting and Jesse becomes
frustrated that he can't find anything in the bag.
When Cecilia Nakamura and Szymon
Skubisz arrive to pick up the bag of evidence left by Julia's
killer, they are shocked that everyone rifled through the bag.
As Cecilia goes through the evidence, she notes that someone
took photographs of Julia inside of her apartment from the fire
escape. Cecilia finds a picture in the bag that is different
from the rest. Cayden is present in the photograph, which means
that it was taken after Julia died, and furthermore, Jesse Martinez
is cut out of the picture. Cayden admits that he took the picture
at Christmas and made a copy for all of his friends.
When Mason enters Cayden's
apartment, Sarah follows him. The two of them find out about
the bag in the incinerator and Sarah makes a few catty remarks
that get Devon's blood boiling and Devon attacks her. Their fight
spills out into the corridor, but it is eventually broken up
my the men and Mrs. Mulberry. |

1x22: "Goodbye, Part II" |
|
In the basement of the apartment building, Cayden searches for
the breaker switch in the darkness. As he is searching, Devon
James appears and Cayden notices that she is acting a little
strange. Devon admits to finding Mason dead in Cayden's apartment,
and Cayden realizes that she is holding a bloody knife. Cayden
begins to fear for his life and realizes that Devon is the killer,
but Szymon Skubisz shows up in time to protect Cayden. He points
his gun at Devon and demands that she surrender.
When Gage Matthews arrives
in the basement, he is shocked to find Szymon weilding a gun
on Devon as Cayden stands by and watches. Gage shields Devon
from Szymon's gun and the four invidiuals find themselves in
a standoff. Cayden accuses Devon of killing Mason and Gage denies
that she had anything to do with it. Devon continues to try to
get Cayden to listen to her words. Gage is ultimately successful
in retrieving the knife from Devon, but Devon pushes forward
and reaches into her jacket for something.
Szymon is poised to shoot,
but Cayden stops him by telling everyone that Devon is pregnant.
When Devon pulls out a piece of paper and hands it to Cayden,
he is confused at first until he realizes that it is the picture
he gave her. She still had it. Devon collapses to the ground
and everyone realizes that she has been stabbed in the back.
Szymon kicks the door to Cayden's
apartment down and finds Jesse standing there, holding the gun
to his head. With the help of Cayden, Gage and Devon, Szymon
is successful in getting Jesse to drop the gun. A defeated Jesse
falls to the floor, a sobbing mess.
Outside of the building, Gage
and Devon are being taken care of by the medica and they talk
about her pregnancy. They decide that if they are having a baby
girl, they will name her Julia. |
