Summary: Growing up in a rich family, Gage Matthews

|
In the middle of the afternoon, Gage returns home drunk out of
his mind and finds Cayden standing in the hall wearing nothing
but his underwear. Thoroughly amused, Gage invites Cayden back
to his place to call maintenance so that they can let him into
his apartment. When maintenance doesn't respond, Gage invites
Cayden to smoke some marijuana with him, but Cayden refuses.
Gage tells Cayden to try asking Kathryn Hayes if she'll let him
climb out on the fire escape to get back into his apartment.
Later, Gage goes over to Cayden's
apartment to make sure everything is okay and Cayden enlists
his help to move furniture. Gage watches as Cayden finds a loose
floorboard, and underneath Cayden finds Julia Taylor's diary. |

1x03: "People Are Strange" |
|
Gage gives Cayden a little advice on how to deal with Devon James.
He tells Cayden that he needs to stand up to Devon and put her
in her place, but Gage is ultimately dissapointed when Cayden
doesn't take advantage of the opportunity to put his good advice
to use.
Later, Gage invites Cayden
to a party where they both get drunk. When Gage walks in on Cayden
getting sexual with another man, Gage is surprised to find out
that Cayden is gay, but he takes it in stride. |

1x04: "The Warning" |
Cayden meets Gage at the pizza shop after school and Gage teases
him about his sexuality. When Gage gets up to make a phone call
and Cayden receives an ominous phone call at the same time, Gage
has to convince Cayden that he was not the one who called him.
Later, Gage enters Cayden's apartment and finds Cayden and Devon
looking very serious. He learns that Cayden's cat was killed
and is freaked out. |

Gage runs into Mason Weber, Cayden's best friend, and the two
hit it off. Gage invites them to go to Club Rain with him where
he and Mason get drunk together, leaving Cayden to fend for himself. |

Gage convinces Cayden that his Halloween costume isn't too freaky
and the group go out to Club Rain to have some fun. Later, when

Gage tells Cayden that Devon has been acting strange since he
moved into the building, as if she has a secret that she is hiding
that is in danger of being discovered. Their conversation is
cut short when they see Jesse being carted from the building
by ambulance and discover that he attempted suicide.We also discover
from Szymon that Gage has all but been disowned by his family
for something horrible that he did. |

|
When Cayden convinces Gage to visit Jesse at the hospital, he
reluctantly tags along. The two run into Szymon Skubisz, who
is going to the hospital to visit his sick mother. When they
get there, Gage decides to stay in the waiting room because he
doesn't know what to say or do. He does, however, have a few
choice words to Szymon Skubisz. He warns to older man not to
play with Cayden's emotions because Cayden is a special kind
of person.
Later, when Devon and Kathryn
step into the hall and their conversation escalates into an argument,
Gage is the one to steps in and intervenes, telling both women
that they need to stop and put Jesse's needs above their petty
differences. |

On Thanksgiving, everyone has gathered at Cayden's apartment
for dinner. When everyone sits down to dinner, they tell one
another what they are most thankful for and Gage admits that
his family doesn't want him around, but that's fine with him
because he has a better family, all of his friends. |

1x11: "The Perfect Sky" |
|
It is two weeks after Thanksgiving, and as the day begins everyone
is helping Mason move into his new apartment, the apartment in
which a neighbor of Cayden's committed suicide. When everyone
begins to get tired of cleaning the new apartment, they decide
to take a break. Cayden, Devon, Gage, Jesse, and Kathryn head
to the corner store to pick up some snacks. While they are there,
Szymon enters the store and speaks to Cayden privately, or so
they think
When Szymon tells Cayden that
they are officially labeling Julia's murder as a cold case, Devon
reacts strongly. When everyone finds out what Szymon told Cayden,
Cayden realizes that it would be best for Szymon to leave, and
he does so.
As everyone decides to pay
for their snacks and leave, a man with a gun enters the corner
store and tells the cashier to hand over the money. When the
cashier pulls out a shotgun, things go from bad to worse. The
cashier is shot and killed and another customer who tries to
flee is shot as well.
Outside, Szymon hears the gunshots
and orders the store robber to come out, but the man doesn't
comply. He holds Cayden, Devon, Gage, Jesse and Kathryn hostage,
threatening to kill them.
When Jesse sees an opportunity
to tackle the gunman, he takes it, but is overpowered by the
other man. In the struggle to get free, Gage is shot. When Cayden
sees that, he tries to flee but is held by the gunman. In an
effort to get out of the store, the gunman holds a gun to Cayden's
head and threatens to shoot him. Szymon sees that and loses it.
When Szymon doesn't back off, the gunman shoots Cayden on the
arm.
Huddled together, Cayden and
Gage start to talk and Cayden realizes that Gage is losing consciousness
so he tries to get Gage to talk so that he can stay awake. As
Gage drifts into unconsciousness, he tells Cayden that he had
sex with Julia Taylor.
Cayden is shocked by the revelation,
but quickly realizes that he has to get out of the store before
he is killed. He tries to flee but if caught by the gunman and
is thrown into the center of a standoff with the gunman and the
police. With quick thinking, Cayden is able to briefly incapacitate
the gunman, allowing Szymon a clear shot, which he takes. |

1x12: "Tainted Love" |
In this episode we see the conversation that Gage had with Julia
Taylor after their one-night affair. The two agree that it was
a mistake. We also discover Gage's motivation for sleeping with
Julia, he wanted to experience real love. Additionally, we find
out that Gage's relationship with Julia is closer than his relationships
with other people. He lets his guard down when he's around her
and confides things in her that he doesn't tell other people. |

Gage sees Cayden in the hall and, half-naked, begs Cayden for
some condoms. He tells Cayden that he and Mason met two girls
that are nymphomaniacs and they run out of condoms. A dejected
Cayden, gives his friends the only unopened pack of condoms that
he has. |

It's Christmas Eve, and Gage pops into Cayden's apartment, he
tries to get Cayden to hang out with him for the night. Cayden
declines and says that he has plans and Gage begins to tease
him about being a slut. |

1x15: "When the Madness Stops, Part II" |
|
When Devon catches Jesse kissing Kathryn, she explodes and everyone
gets involved in an argument. When Gage tells everyone that Julia
wouldn't have wanted them to argue because she was all about
forgiveness, Cayden lets it slip that Gage slept with Julia and
Jesse forgave her for that.
A stunned Jesse didn't know
that Gage was the one Julia cheated on his with and tries to
attack him. As they try to figure out how Cayden knew about the
affair, Devon tells them that he has Julia's diary and she demands
that Cayden give it to her because he can't be trusted.
Angry, Cayden turns on Devon
and tells her that she's the one who can't be trusted because
she helped Julia secretly get an abortion when she didn't know
if Gage or Jesse was her baby's father.
This knews causes everyone
to go into shock and leave Cayden's apartment, but not before
Devon punches him on the nose. |

1x16: "Brand New Day" |
|
While Cayden and Devon are heading up the stairs, they run into
Gage, who tries to avoid them, but Devon stops him and tells
him that they are not mad at him. After some convincing, Gage
agrees to spend New Year's Eve with them.
When Cayden also convinces
Jesse and Kathryn to join them, Gage feel uncomfortable and Devon
tells him to give it some time. Gage understands.
As the countdown to midnight
begins, everyone gathers in Cayden's living room. When the clock
strikes twelve, Devon unexpectedly grabs Gage and gives him a
kiss, warning him that it's nothing more than just a New Year's
kiss.
When Jesse realizes that New
Year's Eve is about starting over, he extends his hand to Gage
and, surprised by his forwardness, Gage accepts it and they shake. |

1x17: "Tempted" |
|
While at work, Devon gets a strange phonecall from Gage Matthews.
When she wonder why Gage would be calling her, she is surprised
when Gage asks her out to eat. When she asks him about his strange
behavior, Gage quickly makes an excuse and hangs up the phone,
leaving Devon to wonder if he was asking her out on a date.
Later, Gage is talking to Mason
about his feelings and when Cayden shows up, he pulls Cayden
into his apartment to confess the fact that he has feelings for
Devon. Cayden laughs and tells him that he either needs to own
up to his feelings and tell Devon, or he can ignore them and
hope that they go away.
At work, Devon spots Gage at
the store where she works, she gets angry and pulls him into
a dressing room where she confronts him about his behavior. Gage
responds by kissing her. When Devon slaps him and asks him what
he's doing, he makes an excuse about her kissing him at New Year's
Eve. The two decide that they are not interested in one another,
and vow to avoid one another, but temptation takes control of
them and they end up having sex in the fitting room. |

1x18: "Dear Diary" |
|
It is the night of Jesse's big art show and Cayden gives Gage
advice about Devon. He tells him to talk to her and see where
things go.
As she is looking at the paintings,
Devon is approached by Gage and the two share a conversation
about art in which Devon makes an observation that Gage's appreciation
of art mirrors his appreciation of women. He is more interested
in art (and women) that are purely visual and don't have much
substance. |

1x19: "The Boy Can't Help It" |
Gage and Mason are talking to Sarah Mulberry in the hall when
Devon and Elijah show up. Devon gets jealous and has a verbal
spar with the girl, which Gage interrupts. Gage takes Devon to
her apartment and asks her what is going on, but Devon chooses
not to tell him. When Devon becomes physically ill, the conversation
is ended. |

1x20: "Truly, Madly, Deeply" |
It's Valentine's Day and Sarah Mulberry runs into Gage in the
lobby. She does her best to come onto him, but Gage tells her
that he doesn't want her. In truth, Gage can only think about
Devon. When Devon catches Gage talking to Sarah, she freaks out
and storms off. Once she's had time to cool off, Devon goes to
Gage's apartment and attacks him because she realized that she
has fallen for him. The two realize that the feelings they have
are mutual and admit their fear of what will happen before they
lay down to make love. |

Episode
1x21: "Goodbye, Part I" |
|
Cayden is frantic when he loses the ring tht Szymon gave him
while throwing out the trash. He begs Devon and Elijah for their
help in searching for it and the three go down to the incinerator
to wade through trash bags. As the search becomes futile, Cayden
discovers a trash bag filled with pictures of Julia Taylor. They
find Julia's diary that was stolen from Cayden's apartment. The
three soon realize that they just dug through the trash of Julia's
killer. They take the trash bag with them as they scurry to leave,
Cayden finds the ring at the last moment.
Back in Cayden's apartment,
he gathers everyone and tells them about the findings. Cayden
calls Szymona d asks him to get there right away. As Jesse steps
forward the grab the bag, Kathryn blocks him and grabs it. Devon
is furious that Kathryn continues to further contaminate the
evidence. Cayden tries to bring everyone back to their senses
and they agree to go through the bad while wearing latex gloves.
As Jesse Martinez searched
through the bag of evidence, he is shocked to find that in every
picture of Julia Taylor, someone cut out her eyes. When Gage
tries to help, Jesse goes off on him, blaming him for preventing
him from spending precious time with Julia before she died. Kathryn
does her best to stop the two men from fighting and Jesse becomes
frustrated that he can't find anything in the bag.
When Cecilia Nakamura and Szymon
Skubisz arrive to pick up the bag of evidence left by Julia's
killer, they are shocked that everyone rifled through the bag.
As Cecilia goes through the evidence, she notes that someone
took photographs of Julia inside of her apartment from the fire
escape. Cecilia finds a picture in the bag that is different
from the rest. Cayden is present in the photograph, which means
that it was taken after Julia died, and furthermore, Jesse Martinez
is cut out of the picture. Cayden admits that he took the picture
at Christmas and made a copy for all of his friends.
When Mason enters Cayden's
apartment, Sarah follows him. The two of them find out about
the bag in the incinerator and Sarah makes a few catty remarks
that get Devon's blood boiling and Devon attacks her. Their fight
spills out into the corridor, but it is eventually broken up
by the men and Mrs. Mulberry. |

1x22: "Goodbye, Part II" |
|
As Gage decides to go downstairs to get the power back on, he
used the staircase, but trips over something in the darkness.
He soon realizes that it is Sarah Mulberry. A confused Sarah
discovers that her leg is broken. She informs Gage that someone
pushed her and she identifies Devon James as her attacker. A
confused Gage promises to get help for Sarah and runs off to
find Devon.
When Gage Matthews arrives
in the basement, he is shocked to find Szymon weilding a gun
on Devon as Cayden stands by and watches. Gage shields Devon
from Szymon's gun and the four invidiuals find themselves in
a standoff. Cayden accuses Devon of killing Mason and Gage denies
that she had anything to do with it. Devon continues to try to
get Cayden to listen to her words. Gage is ultimately successful
in retrieving the knife from Devon, but Devon pushes forward
and reaches into her jacket for something.
Szymon is poised to shoot,
but Cayden stops him by telling everyone that Devon is pregnant.
When Devon pulls out a piece of paper and hands it to Cayden,
he is confused at first until he realizes that it is the picture
he gave her. She still had it. Devon collapses to the ground
and everyone realizes that she has been stabbed in the back.
When Elijah returns to Cayden's
apartment, he is shocked to find Mason's dead body. As he stumbles
out of the bedroom, he runs into Kathryn and she tells him that
Devon murdered Cayden and she saw the whole thing from where
she was hiding in the bathroom. She tells him that when Devon
left, she crawled out of the bathroom and checked to make sure
that Cayden was okay but that when she checked his pulse he was
dead. Realizing that something it wrong, Elijah tells Kathryn
that it isn't Cayden who's dead, it's Mason. Elijah suddenly
realizes that Kathryn is lying and tries to flee, but Kathryn
prevents him from doing so by knocking him to the ground. She
grabs Cayden's DVD player and slams it down on Elijah's head
just as Gage arrives to watch the brutal attack.
Before Gage could get the upper
hand on Kathryn, she incapaciates him by throwing the dvd player
this head with full force. Gage crashes to the ground unconscious.
Szymon kicks the door to Cayden's
apartment down and finds Jesse standing there, holding the gun
to his head. With the help of Cayden, Gage and Devon, Szymon
is successful in getting Jesse to drop the gun. A defeated Jesse
falls to the floor, a sobbing mess.
Outside of the building, Gage
and Devon are being taken care of by the medica and they talk
about her pregnancy. They decide that if they are having a baby
girl, they will name her Julia. |
