|
After being locked out of his apartment, Cayden uses Kathryn's
fire escape to get in through the window and finds Jesse in his
apartment. Jesse tells him that his girlfriend, Julia Taylor,
used to live in the same apartment and that she was murdered
in the bathtub.
When Cayden asks him to leave,
Jesse tells him that he had a dream, and in his dream Julia told
him that Cayden would help find her killer. |

1x02: "Except for One Little Problem, Part II" |
|
While Jesse is folding his clothing in the laundry room, Cayden
walks in and the two talk about Jesse's dream. When it becomes
evident that Cayden doesn't know how to do laundry, Jesse teaches
him.
Jesse tells Cayden that he
knows that Cayden is gay and after initially denying it, Cayden
admits that it's true. The two talk about Julia's letters and
Jesse tells him that it's a good idea he's turning them over
to the police because he believes that Julia's killer still lives
in the building.
After leaving the laundry room,
Jesse is attacked from behind and his attacker goes after Cayden.
When Detective Szymon Skubisz shows up and scares the attacker
off, he and Jesse spar verbally over the fact that Szymon thinks
he's guilty of killing Julia Taylor. |

Episode
1x03: "People Are Strange" |
Jesse runs into Cayden just as Cayden is heading to a party with
Gage Matthews. Jesse asks Cayden how he's been since they were
attacked two weeks ago and tells Cayden that he's glad that he
gave the diary to the police because whoever attacked them has
stopped. Jesse also warns Cayden that if he's going out with
Gage that he'd better be careful because Gage is into drugs. |

While checking their mailboxes, Cayden asks Jesse if he's received
any strange phone calls, but Jesse tells him that he hasn't. |

In the laundry room of the building, Jesse corners Cayden and
asks if he's found anything else in Julia's apartment. When Cayden
tells him that he hasn't, Jesse gets somewhat menacing and tells
Cayden that he should let him look through the apartment. When
Jesse realizes that Cayden is afraid, he allows him to leave,
but not before apologizing. |

Feeling lonely without Julia, Jesse sneaks into Cayden's apartment,
but is caught when Cayden and the others return home. When Devon
decides to have a seance and contact Julia Taylor, Jesse is shocked. |

1x07: "Dark Secret, Part II" |
Jesse agrees to go along with the seance so that he can talk
to Julia. He and Cayden have a talk and he tells Cayden that
Julia wanted children and that he wanted to give them to her.
During the seance Jesse is focused on contacting Julia, but when
Kathryn breaks the circle, Jesse is left alone, holding onto
something that is no longer there. |

1x08: "Building a Mystery" |
Jesse gets upset while trying to paint a portrait of Julia because
he can't capture her eyes. When Kathryn drops by and tells him
that forgetting is part of the healing process, he grows angry
and throws her out of his apartment. Later, Jesse goes out for
some groceries and when he returns, he runs into Cayden and tells
him that he's going to let go of his demons tonight. When he
gets to his apartment, he finds a basket of cupcakes outside
of his door. Remembering how Julia used to make cupcakes for
him, he wonders if perhaps she has come back for him. He later
cuts his wrists in the bathroom so that he could rejoin her.
When Kathryn finds him, a delirious Jesse thinks that she is
Julia. We also discover from Szymon that Jesse has been in and
out of mental institutions for most of his life. |

1x09: "When the Morning Comes" |
|
While at the hospital, Jesse confides in Cayden that he doesn't
want to live without Julia. Cayden manages to convince him that
Julia would have wanted him to go on and live a full life and
learn to love again.
When Szymon Skubisz enters
and accuses Jesse of attempting suicide because he felt guilty
for killing Julia, everyone goes into an uproar. Cayden manages
to get Szymon to leave. |

1x10: "Everybody Makes Mistakes" |
|
On Thanksgiving, everyone has gathered at Cayden's apartment
for dinner. Kathryn approaches Jesse and they start to reminisce
about old times and Thanksgiving with Julia. Jesse tells her
that he doesn't have anything to be thankful for this year and
she reminds him that he still has his friends.
Mason tells everyone that one
of their neighbors is dead after having committed suicide and
everyone shows concern for how Jesse reacts to this news, but
he assured them that he is fine and that he knows he would have
ended up like their neighbor if he didn't have such great friends.
When everyone sits down to
dinner, they tell one another what they are most thankful for
and Jesse admits that while he is thankful for his friends, he
is more thankful that he got to experience love, even if for
just a short time. |

Episode
1x11: "The Perfect Sky" |
|
It is two weeks after Thanksgiving, and as the day begins everyone
is helping Mason move into his new apartment, the apartment in
which a neighbor of Cayden's committed suicide. When everyone
begins to get tired of cleaning the new apartment, they decide
to take a break. Cayden, Devon, Gage, Jesse, and Kathryn head
to the corner store to pick up some snacks. While they are there,
Szymon enters the store and speaks to Cayden privately, or so
they think
When Szymon tells Cayden that
they are officially labeling Julia's murder as a cold case, Devon
reacts strongly. When everyone finds out what Szymon told Cayden,
Cayden realizes that it would be best for Szymon to leave, and
he does so.
As everyone decides to pay
for their snacks and leave, a man with a gun enters the corner
store and tells the cashier to hand over the money. When the
cashier pulls out a shotgun, things go from bad to worse. The
cashier is shot and killed and another customer who tries to
flee is shot as well.
Outside, Szymon hears the gunshots
and orders the store robber to come out, but the man doesn't
comply. He holds Cayden, Devon, Gage, Jesse and Kathryn hostage,
threatening to kill them.
When Jesse sees an opportunity
to tackle the gunman, he takes it, but is overpowered by the
other man. In the struggle to get free, Gage is shot. When Cayden
sees that, he tries to flee but is held by the gunman. In an
effort to get out of the store, the gunman holds a gun to Cayden's
head and threatens to shoot him. Szymon sees that and loses it.
When Szymon doesn't back off, the gunman shoots Cayden on the
arm.
Huddled together, Devon tries
to get Kathryn to calm down and with help from Jesse, she is
able to do so.
When Cayden realizes that he
has to get out of the store before he is killed. He tries to
flee but if caught by the gunman and is thrown into the center
of a standoff with the gunman and the police.
With quick thinking, Cayden
is able to briefly incapacitate the gunman, allowing Szymon a
clear shot, which he takes. |

In this episode we learn that Jesse was really into Julia Taylor.
She was all that he thought about. We also see a happier, more
alive Jesse when he is around Julia. He is playful and frisky.
We also learn that Jesse had one of his paintings sold at an
art gallery. |

Jesse spies Cayden in the lobby talking to Kathryn and Cayden
notices that Jesse and Kathryn are becoming more physical as
they lock arms with one another. Cayden then discovers that Jesse
and Kathryn are going out on a date. |

1x14: "When the Madness Stops, Part I" |
It's Christmas Eve, and Cayden spies Kathryn and Jesse on the
fire escape and is worried because he doesn't want them there
when Dominick shows up. They invite him to go out with them,
but he declines. When Cayden admits that he's worried that Dominick
won't show, Jesse tells him that Dominick would be crazy to pass
up on him because Cayden is a real catch. Realizing that his
comment made him sound gay, Jesse comicly decides to stop drinking
and sets his wine glass down. |

1x15: "When the Madness Stops, Part II" |
|
Cayden is feeling sad and decides to get drunk. Jesse tries to
talk to him and convince him that getting drunk isn't the answer
and Cayden argues with him, ultimately they go to their separate
corners.
When Devon catches Jesse kissing
Kathryn, she explodes and everyone gets involved in an argument.
When Gage tells everyone that Julia wouldn't have wanted them
to argue because she was all about forgiveness, Cayden lets it
slip that Gage slept with Julia and Jesse forgave her for that.
A stunned Jesse didn't know
that Gage was the one Julia cheated on his with and tries to
attack him. As they try to figure out how Cayden knew about the
affair, Devon tells them that he has Julia's diary and she demands
that Cayden give it to her because he can't be trusted.
Angry, Cayden turns on Devon
and tells her that she's the one who can't be trusted because
she helped Julia secretly get an abortion when she didn't know
if Gage or Jesse was her baby's father.
This knews causes everyone
to go into shock and leave Cayden's apartment, but not before
Devon punches him on the nose. |

1x16: "Brand New Day" |
|
Jesse and Kathryn share a bottle of wine on the fire escape as
they wait for the New Year's Eve countdown. When Cayden returns
to his apartment with Devon and Gage, he spies Kathryn and Jesse
on the fire escape and opens the window. Jesse tries to ignore
him and go back into Kathryn's apartment, but Cayden stops him
and asks him if knowing who Julia cheated with changes the fact
that he forgave her for doing it. When Jesse realizes that he
still loved Julia even when he didn't know who she cheated on
his with, he realizes that Cayden is right, but he is still angry
at Gage. At Cayden's request, Jesse and Kathryn enter his apartment.
Jesse asks Kathryn if she is
okay with him talking about how much he loved Julia since they
are dating now. Kathryn tells him that she understands and asks
him what he's going to do about Gage. Jesse tells her that he
had reason to be angry with Gage and Kathryn agrees, but tells
him that maybe with time, he'll be able to forgive Gage.
As the countdown to midnight
begins, everyone gathers in Cayden's living room. When the clock
strikes twelve, Jesse kisses Kathryn and then looks at Devon,
hoping that she won't over react, but Devon merely smiles at
them warmly.
When Jesse realizes that New
Year's Eve is about starting over, he extends his hand to Gage
and, surprised by his forwardness, Gage accepts it and they shake. |

1x17: "Tempted" |
|
Cayden runs into Jesse in the lobby of their building. Jesse
admits that he is having a problem with Kathryn. Jesse feels
as if he is being unfaithful to Julia because he is attracted
to Kathryn. Cayden tells him that it's going to take time and
that it's normal for him to feel that way.
Kathryn approaches them and
tells Cayden that Jesse is having his artwork featured at an
art show.
Later, while Jesse and Kathryn
are in his bed kissing, the excitement builds as they begin to
remove articles of clothing. Just as things begin to really heat
up, an image of Julia Taylor flashes in front of Jesse's eyes
and he is unable to proceed, leaving Kathryn wondering what just
happened. |

1x18: "Dear Diary" |
It is the night of Jesse's big art show and he is nervous about
it. When the host of the evening announces that it is time to
reveal Jesse's final painting, things go badly when Jesse unveils
a portrait of Julia that has been vandalized. Jesse tears out
of the show, screaming and is followed by Kathryn and Devon,
who promise not to leave his side until he calms down. |

1x19: "The Boy Can't Help It" |
|
Jesse and Kathryn run into Mrs. Mulberry and her granddaughter
Sarah in the hall. Mrs. Mulberry has a broken leg and Sarah tells
them how she will be staying with her grandmother to watch over
her. Sarah begins to flirt with Jesse, unbeknownst to him.
Later, Sarah surprises Jesse
with a cake and her advances on him become even more obvious.
They are interrupted by Kathryn, who quickly gets Sarah to leave. |

1x20: "Truly, Madly, Deeply" |
|
It's Valentine's Day and Jesse and Kathryn are in the laundry
room joking around when Cayden enters. Cayden asks Jesse if he's
okay. Jesse admits that he realized that Julia is gone for good
and he has to move on. He admits to Cayden that he is going to
make love to Kathryn for the first time. When Sarah Mulberry
enters, she asks everyone what they're doing and seems especially
interested in Jesse.
Later, Jesse goes out to pick
up a bottle of wine and when he returns, he gets stuck on the
elevator with Sarah. Sarah does her best to come onto him and
even grabs his crotch and tries to kiss him. When the power comes
back on, the doors open and Kathryn Hayes catches them.
Jesse goes after Kathryn and
explains that what she saw was Sarah trying to seduce him, but
he does not want her. After some convincing, he gets Kathryn
to relax and the two make love for the first time. |

1x21: "Goodbye, Part I" |
|
Cayden is frantic when he loses the ring tht Szymon gave him
while throwing out the trash. He begs Devon and Elijah for their
help in searching for it and the three go down to the incinerator
to wade through trash bags. As the search becomes futile, Cayden
discovers a trash bag filled with pictures of Julia Taylor. They
find Julia's diary that was stolen from Cayden's apartment. The
three soon realize that they just dug through the trash of Julia's
killer. They take the trash bag with them as they scurry to leave,
Cayden finds the ring at the last moment.
Back in Cayden's apartment,
he gathers everyone and tells them about the findings. Cayden
calls Szymona d asks him to get there right away. As Jesse steps
forward the grab the bag, Kathryn blocks him and grabs it. Devon
is furious that Kathryn continues to further contaminate the
evidence. Cayden tries to bring everyone back to their senses
and they agree to go through the bad while wearing latex gloves.
As Jesse Martinez searched
through the bag of evidence, he is shocked to find that in every
picture of Julia Taylor, someone cut out her eyes. When Gage
tries to help, Jesse goes off on him, blaming him for preventing
him from spending precious time with Julia before she died. Kathryn
does her best to stop the two men from fighting and Jesse becomes
frustrated that he can't find anything in the bag.
When Cecilia Nakamura and Szymon
Skubisz arrive to pick up the bag of evidence left by Julia's
killer, they are shocked that everyone rifled through the bag.
As Cecilia goes through the evidence, she notes that someone
took photographs of Julia inside of her apartment from the fire
escape. Cecilia finds a picture in the bag that is different
from the rest. Cayden is present in the photograph, which means
that it was taken after Julia died, and furthermore, Jesse Martinez
is cut out of the picture. Cayden admits that he took the picture
at Christmas and made a copy for all of his friends.
When Mason enters Cayden's
apartment, Sarah follows him. The two of them find out about
the bag in the incinerator and Sarah makes a few catty remarks
that get Devon's blood boiling and Devon attacks her. Their fight
spills out into the corridor, but it is eventually broken up
my the men and Mrs. Mulberry. |

1x22: "Goodbye, Part II" |
|
Upstairs, in Kathryn's apartment, Jesse and Kathryn find themselves
alone. They begin to kiss in the darkness and just as things
are about to accelerate, Jesse mistakenly calls out Julia Taylor's
name.
She begins to get angry by
the fact that Jesse can't seem to let go of Julia. She admits
to seeing Julia and Gage having sex and she admits to blackmailing
Julia into leaving Jesse. Jesse soon realizes the awful truth
that Kathryn murdered Julia so that she could have Jesse all
to herself. She admits to Jesse that she finally got rid of Cayden
and stabbed him to death. Unbeknownst to her, she really murdered
Mason. In order to prevent Jesse from leaving, Kathryn hits him
over the head with a lamp.
An unconscious Jesse Martinez
hears the voice of Julia Taylor calling out to him. She tells
him that he is the only one who can stop Kathryn now. Jesse pleads
with Julia's ghost to stay, but she tells him that she has to
leave, but that she will be back and all he has to do is look
for her and she will be there.
When she turns around, she
finds Jesse Martinez standing in the apartment.
Jesse tells Kathryn that he
finally realizes how much she truly loves him. Kathryn is hesitant
at first, but when she realizes that she could finally have everything
that she ever wanted, she relents and falls into Jesse's arms.
He takes the gun out of Kathryn's hands and uses it to shoot
her in the stomach. A confused Kathryn steps away and looks into
Jesse's eyes one last time before she dies.
Szymon kicks the door to Cayden's
apartment down and finds Jesse standing there, holding the gun
to his head. With the help of Cayden, Gage and Devon, Szymon
is successful in getting Jesse to drop the gun. A defeated Jesse
falls to the floor, a sobbing mess.
As a catatonic Jesse Martinez
is being taken away in an ambulance, he glanced up at the apartment
Julia Taylor once resided in and he sees her in the window waving
goodbye. |
