 director's notes

This scene was cut from the original episode simply beacuse it didn't seem to fit into "Cayden's Wacky Adventure." Also, I wanted to make Devon seem as one-dimensional as possible early on and it didn't help that she wasn't bitchy at all in this scene. While her personality does get explored in later episodes, the first episode needed to be about the first impression the reader got from Devon, and I didn't want them to sympathize with her this early on.

 scene one

Glancing around Devon’s apartment, Jesse sighed inwardly as he headed for the couch and sat down. “So what’s the deal with the new guy?” He inquired.

“I don’t know,” Devon said as she stepped out of the bedroom, “but I can’t stand the idea of him living in Julia’s apartment.

“It’s not Julia’s apartment anymore,” Jesse said softly as he glanced away and stared at the carpet for a moment.

“I know that,” Devon sighed as she crossed over to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, “but she’s only been gone for a month, and the police still haven’t found her killer. It’s so frustrating,” she said as she returned tot he living room and handed Jesse a beer.

Accepting the beer, Jesse leaned back and snapped it open. “Don’t worry, we’ll find her killer.”

“How can you be so sure?” Devon inquired as she sat down beside him and took a sip from her own can. “I mean . . . whoever did it could be a million miles away by now.”

“I don’t think so,” Jesse admitted, “I think whoever did it is still very close by.”

“What makes you think that?” Devon questioned as she glanced over at him.

“I don’t know,” Jesse responded, “I just know.”

“That makes absolutely no sense,” Devon informed him as she leaned back on the couch.

“And yet it does,” Jesse admitted. “I’m confident that her killer will be found. You’ll see.”

“How can you be so sure?” Devon asked.

“Because it came to me in a dream,” Jesse responded.
