In a single moment, the world
stood still. No one moved. No one breathed. It was as if everything
had come to a screeching halt, and the silence . . . the silence
was deafening. Yet, deep down in Szymon Skubisz a storm was brewing
and ready to unleash it's wrath.
"You son of a bitch! What
did you do?" Szymon Skubisz finally yelled as he stood in
the center of the living room in horror. He held his hands up
in the air, fearing what might happen if he attempted to make
a quick move. His thoughts raced like a thousand tiny raindrops
dancing in the night.
"Oh my God, he's crazy!"
Sarah Mulberry shrieked, unable to control herself as she tried
to get to her feet. She searched about frantically for a way
to escape as her heart nearly beat out of her chest.
"Sarah!" Jesse Martinez
said, crouching, as he reached up for her hand and pulled her
back down to the floor. "Sarah, stop!" He warned her,
knowing full well that all of their lives would be in danger
if she persisted in trying to escape. He held his hand over her
mouth as she sobbed uncontrollably in his arms.
"What did you do?"
Szymon repeated, unable to wrap his mind around what had just
happened. He glanced at the corner of the room in shock.
"Fuck!" Devon James
yelled, her face contorted into a look of agony as she sat, slumped
in a corner. She tried her best to endure the pain, but it was
quickly getting the best of her.
"Just breathe," Gage
Matthews whispered to her as he held her, trying to comfort her
in the best way he knew how. "Women give birth everyday
. . ."
"Not in a hostage situation!"
Devon shrieked as the pain of her contractions grew too intense
for her to bear. She grabbed Gage's hand and squeezed with all
of the strength that her body could muster.
"I said shut up! I can't
think!" The man holding the gun yelled as he shook his head
with frustration. He paced back and forth by the door, shaking
his head as he tried to gather his thoughts.
"We have to g-get to a
hospital," Elijah Montessori said, despite the intense fear
he was feeling. "We have to call an ambulance," he
beseeched.
"No! We're not calling
an ambulance, I just have to think . . ."
"You he-heartless son
of a bitch, he's gonna die!" Elijah screamed.
"I said shut up!"
The man yelled as he turned and aimed the gun at Elijah. Sarah
screamed and Jesse did his best to prevent her from moving.
"Oh my God!" Devon
cried as her latest contraction shook her to the core. Gage held
her firmly in his arms and tried his best to make her comfortable.
"Leave him alone!" Devon yelled, despite the pain.
"He didn't do anything to you!"
"Szymon . . ." Cayden
King said softly.
"I'm right here,"
Szymon said as he rushed to Cayden's side. "I'm right here,"
he repeated.
"What happened?"
Cayden questioned with a cough as blood trickled down the side
of his mouth.
Szymon Skubisz stared down
at the bullet wound in Cayden's abdomen with shock. He didn't
know how to tell Cayden what had just happened. He couldn't even
understand how all of this had come to pass. He didn't even know
where to begin. |
